Two Case of Occupational Asthma Caused by Nickel and Chromium.

Abstract
Nickel and chromium hypersensitivity commonly presents as contact dermatitis. Occupational asthma caused by nickel and chromium seems uncommon. We report two cases of occupational asthma exposed to nickel and chromium in metal-plating factories.
Case I
Was not-atopic, and showed negative responses on skin test to nickel and chromium with positive patch test to them. Bronchoprovocatin test (BPT) with NiSO4 and CrSO4 revealed late only and early asthmatic responses. Although his initial
methacholine
bronchial challenge test showed a negative results, bronchial hyper responsiveness developed after NiSO4-BPT and it recovered at 48th hour. Case II was non-atopic and showed positive responses to nickel(4¡¿3/18¡¿15) and chromium
(3¡¿3/24¡¿23) on
skin prick test with negative patch test to them. NiSO4-BPT showed early asthmatic response, and CrSO4-BPT, showed dual asthmatic response His methacholine PC20 was 3.8mg/ml. It was suggested that nickel and chromium could induce occupational
asthma in
exposed workers. Further investigations are needed to clarify their pathogenetic mechanisms.
